Truck Driver Cited In Park Ridge Boy's Death

Samuel Colberly, Jr. was killed last week while he was on his way to school when he was struck by a truck. The 13 year old was riding his bike to Lincoln Middle School in Park Ridge, Illinois when the tractor-trailer killed him.

The truck driver, John Solberg, has since been cited for failure to exercise due caution and for failure to yield at a stop sign. The truck was heading south on Aldine when the accident occurred and there is a stop sign on Aldine at Touhy. Samuel Coberly Jr.'s family may be able to take legal action against Solberg and his employer for the wrongful death of Samuel and should contact an attorney.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Park Ridge Boy Hit and Killed by Semi-Truck

Thirteen year old Samuel Coberly Jr. of Park Ridge, Illinois was killed Thursday morning when he was on his way to school. He was riding his bicycle on Touhy Avenue when he was hit and killed by a semi-truck. His father tried to revive him but was unsuccessful.

It is unclear at this time how the truck collided with the boy, but it appears that the truck was not speeding at the time. The family of Samuel Coberly Jr. may be entitled to file a wrongful death suit against the truck driver and the trucking company if the truck driver was the cause of the boy's death.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Good Samaritan Killed On Chicago Highway

Thirty-three year old Everardo Morales was killed when he stopped to help another motorist on Chicago's Interstate Highway 94. Morales was struck by the trailer of a truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not ticketed.

The accident occurred at a very congested area of the highway just before it merges with the Dan Ryan expressway. Further investigation is necessary to determine if the truck driver is responsible for the death of Morales. The fact that the truck driver did not receive a ticket at the scene does not necessarily mean that he or the truck company cannot be held responsible for the death of Morales.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.

An early morning crash on Chicago's South Side involved a CTA bus, a truck and several cars. The accident occurred at Archer Avenue and Ashland Avenue in Bridgeport. At least three people were injured in the accident, two of which were in serious to critical condition.

There is no information currently on what caused the accident, or if the CTA or another driver is to blame for the accident. Those injured in the accident may be able to take legal action against the party responsible for the accident and their injuries.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Jeep Collides with Truck in Northwest Chicago Suburbs

Tuesday evening a man traveling in Des Plaines, Illinois was killed when his Jeep collided with a semi-truck. The man, 26 year old Arsen Harutyunyan was driving his Jeep on River Road when the crash occurred. The Des Plaines police are currently investigating the accident.

At this time there is no report as to who was at fault or who was driving the truck. If the truck driver is at fault for the accident then he and or his company that he was driving the truck for could be facing a lawsuit for the wrongful death of Arsen Harutyunyan.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Fire Truck Collides With School Bus on Chicago's South Side

A fire truck was found turned over on its side this morning and looked to have possibly collided with a school bus. The accident occurred on Chicago's South Side near 59th Street and Princeton Avenue. There were injuries to some of the firefighters on the fire truck and to the bus driver, but luckily there were no children on the bus at the time of the accident.

The injured were taken to local hospitals. There is no information at this time on the cause of the injury and if the fire truck, the school bus or some other force was at fault.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Van With Flat Tire Causes Chicago Accident

Two semis, three pick-ups and three cars were involved in a crash on 130th Street Monday afternoon. The pile up was caused by a woman driving a van that had a flat tire. The van was not traveling at the posted speed due to the flat tire and was causing problems with the flow of track. A semi truck attempted to maneuver around the van but was unsuccessful and wound up jumping the median and striking a pick-up truck.

After the first pick-up was hit a second was struck and a chain reaction occurred. In the end eight vehicles were involved in the accident and eight people were brought to local hospitals. Four of the people were said to be in critical condition and four were in serious condition.

The woman driving the van with the flat tire had a responsibility to move to the side of the road and repair her car or call for help. Instead she went on her way and caused eight people to be injured. She received a citation for driving with the flat tire, but she will likely face more than this one ticket because of the injuries to the other parties.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Truck Accident Kills Woman on Chicago Expressway

A woman was killed when her car was coming off the entrance ramp on the Edens expressway and was struck by a semi-truck. The accident happend near the Foster Avenue exit in the morning of January 17, 2007. The woman was in her 30s and was taken to Stein Institute. She was pronounced dead approximately four hours after the accident occurred.

There has been no information as to who was at fault in the accident. Large semi-trucks are often a problem for drivers because of the high speeds these trucks are traveling at and their inability to slow down or stop as quickly as they may need to in order to avoid an accident. Lack of visibility also often plagues truck drivers' abilities to see cars that are changing lanes while on the highway.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Truck Crash on Tollway

Two truck accidents only 40 minutes apart on the Tri-State Tollway in Illinois. No one was killed in either accidents but injuries were reported in one of the accidents.

Both trucks were out-of-control when they crashed and caused lane closures. Luckily in these two crashes no one was killed. Two accidents in one day and so close to one another makes one question how safe we really are with semi trucks on the road. The first accident caused a ruptured fuel tank and the second caused the truck trailer to overturn and spill cargo all over the road.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jamie G.
Federal Rules Encourage Truck Driver Fatigue Crashes

Five organizations fighting to reduce trucker fatigue accidents have filed a petition against the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's proposed 2005 hours-of-service rule. The U.S. Court Of Appeals struck down a similar rule in 2004, chastising the agency for permitting dramatic increases in driving time. Truckers' driving hours have increased 40% in the last few years, each day and every week. Not surprisingly, fatal truck crashes have climbed from 5,036 to 5,190. Further, the 2005 rule still fails to require electronic onboard recorders, which would provide reliable data on drivers' hours and permit effective enforcement of driving limits. Cheating on paper logbooks is rampant. It is clear that FMCSA is putting the public and truckers at risk so that truck companies can make a bigger profit. Stay away from trucks; you don't know how awake the driver is at any time.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer
