Corpus Christi, Texas will be the venue for the first jury trial to determine whether welding rods cause Parkinson Disease symptoms. Over 3800 lawsuits have been filed in the U.S, consolidated for supervision by a Cleveland Federal District Court. The suits allege that high expsures to manganese and fumes from the burning rods cause shaking, poor balance, difficullty walking and swallowing. The four welding rod manufacturers defend the cases by denying the risks and claiming that warning labels and safety equipment minimize the risk. I'll keep you posted.
