The FDA initially issued a warning about Salmonella linked to Peter Pan Peanut Butter on February 14, 2007. Since that time there have been numerous cases of salmonella reported all over the country, including in Illinois. The first Illinois case related to the outbreak was recently filed and others are expected, including one on behalf of a man who may have died as a result of ingesting the contaminated peanut butter.

Today, March 1, 2007, the FDA issued an update on the recall. At this time the FDA has sampled the processing plant in Sylvester, Georgia where the peanut butter was manufactured. The ConAgra plant tested positive for salmonella and the strain matches that of recently tested peanut butter that consumers became sick from after ingesting. The FDA has also extended the list of recalled products to certain Sonic Brand and Carval products containing peanut butter.
