Angela Jaynes died Monday after being struck by a van while she was working as a Chicago traffic aide. It has now been reported that the driver of the vehicle was a 17 year old with no license and no insurance. He was speeding and ran the red light at the intersection where Jaynes was working. This is the second traffic control aide to be hit and killed on the job in Chicago in only six weeks.

The city of Chicago needs to create stiffer penalties for people who are careless drivers and put traffic aides' lives in danger. Motorists are in a rush in the morning to arrive at work on time and do not take the time to realize that there are people standing in the middle of the intersections trying to help the traffic move efficiently. Instead, motorists ignore the traffic aides and speed through the intersections as they see fit. Unless something is done to stop motorists from ignoring traffic aides it is going to be difficult to avoid another tragedy like this in the near future.

Jaynes' family may be able to seek legal action against the 17 year old driver for the wrongful death of Angela Jaynes and they should seek legal assistance. There is no information at this time as to who owned the van and why the 17 year old was driving it.
